Not Easy to Say

A Song by Edward Waters
(Copyright © February 1975)

 Lord, it's very clear that You've been good to me,
And so it's strange that I'm troubled in my heart;
But there's a thing I've simply got to ask You,
And I'm just not sure where to start.

This is not easy to say,
But I know how readily I disobey;
So if things I treasure lead me astray,
Take them away.

My cup is overrunning with Your blessings,
And I'm thankful for each and every one;
But sometimes I'm tempted to forget that the glory's owed to You,
And I take my eyes off Your blessed Son.

This is not easy to say,
But I know how readily I disobey;
So if things I treasure lead me astray,
Take them away.

Now I can't help but wonder how sincere I am,
For though it's hard to say, it's harder still to mean;
So if there's any part of me that's not given to You,
Help me, Lord, to surrender everything.

This is not easy to say,
But the thing I want the most is to obey;
So if other treasures lead me astray,
Take them away.
